Switch to the Mac, Part 1

I decided to blog about my experience switching from Windows to a MacBook Pro. This was a decision that I have been agonizing over for years now. I was comfortable working on a Windows machine, but I was getting increasingly frustrated with the issues that I was having with not only my Vista machine at home but the XP machines at work. All I've wanted was a computer I could fire up and get my work done, not a machine that required me to work around this issue and troubleshoot that issue, and don't download anything it might have a virus. So I decided to plunk down my money on a MacBook Pro (15", 2.53 GHz, 4GB RAM).

So far I am really happy with it. I have had it for 2 weeks now and had only one issue and that was caused by putting Windows on it, ironically. I am working my way through the iLife and iWork apps learning the details. I also have found a bunch of apps I used on my Windows machines are available on the Mac. There were a few that I had to search for alternatives and a couple I have to run in a virtual mach with Vista installed on it.

I really like how beautiful this computer looks the hardware is simple and elegant and the screen is absolutely gorgeous. These MacBook Pros have the LED backlit screens and what a difference it makes, they also run at a much higher resolution. Everything looks fantastic from text to movies and photos. This screen has such deep black that make the colors just pop. I was using one of the Windows machines at work yesterday and I found myself asking if that screen always looked that faded and ugly. Apparently it has and I didn't know it.

I want to spend sometime talking about my favorite apps but I will wait for part 2 for that. To conclude I am very happy with my new MacBook Pro.

New Technology Section and Changes to the Site

I'm getting excited about what God has for The God Filter in 2010 and one thing that I have wanted to do is tech coverage.  So here are the changes we've made.

New Navigation:

At the top of the page you'll notice that our positioning statement,"Theology. Technology. Discussion." is now setup as a set of links. The main page will remain the Theology page and you can access the Technology page by clicking on Technology. in the header. I made these changes to simplify the navigation of the site.

New Section:

I'm adding a technology section, because I'm a geek and it's going to be a bit of a hobby for me to post tech news.

More exciting things to come...
